IPhone and iPad have a sophisticated print function. However, this requires an AirPrint-compatible printer. We will show you how to upgrade each printer with a free add-on.

In the name of AirPrint, Apple has christened a technology, which also allows the home mobile devices to print on network printers. To do this, they must be on the same network as the printer.
In the past few years, many printers have been published that are AirPrint compatible. If you have such a printer, it's fine. Simply unpack, connect, turn on and it is already found by Apple's mobile devices. The print function has Apple by the way in the "share" menu accommodated. It is available in all major applications, such as Mail and Safari.
Reading tip: printer in the test
The situation is somewhat less satisfactory if your printer is not AirPrint-compatible. Hardly any manufacturer has made the effort to retrofit older devices by means of a firmware update. Technically this would have been possible. With the help of programs available for Windows and OSX, you can make any printer AirPrint compatible. The printer is connected to the PC via USB or network. The software then opens an AirPrint interface through which the printer can be reached. This also works with several printers at the same time. Disadvantage: The PC or Mac must be switched on for printing.
Lesetipp: Increase WLAN range
How this works in practice we show you for Windows using the free software Netgear Genie. It also works perfectly if you do not use a router or other hardware from Netgear. Genius is also available for OSX. Here, however, we have also had very good experiences with the little Euro-expensive software Printopia, which offers some additional functions.
