Before you order a new SSD for your notebook, you should determine the maximum possible height. While the width and depth of an SSD match the standard 2.5-inch drive standard, the height may vary: in Ultrabooks and most sub-notebooks with 13 and 14 inches, only SSDs with a height of seven millimeters fit
Standard notebooks, on the other hand, are clear with the usual drives with 9.5 millimeters in height. If you want to install the SSD in the desktop PC, you should ensure that the 2.5-inch SSD is an enclosed frame for the 3.5-inch hard drive shafts usually included. If necessary, you can buy these frames separately.
All SSD models in the test field have a modern SATA-III interface (SATA 6Gb / s). Even if you still have a PC or a notebook with a SATA II interface (SATA 3Gb / s), the SSDs can be used without problems there. The transmission rates with SATA II are, however, lower and can reach a maximum of 300 MB / s, but this is still significantly faster than a conventional HDD.
There is still the move to the new hard drive: The installation of a new drive is a good opportunity to reinstall the operating system. Anyone who is reluctant to re-boot all applications and Windows is also served: Some SSDs are equipped with a clone software such as Acronis True Image HD. If this is not the case, you can access Freeware.

The perfect SSD does not yet exist, even if our test winner is very close to the ideal. Decisive is definitely the intended purpose. The Samsung SSD 840 Pro or the OCZ Vector is the best choice for users who need maximum performance. Because of the higher power consumption, they are not necessarily the first choice for notebook use. Here, a lightweight and low-noise SSD such as that of Intel is better. The fact that this is a bit slower does not play a role in mobile use.
