HD stream and mobile devices

This is because the DLNA standard for media streaming is based on a complete file. On the other hand, the live stream comes from the orbit and is intended to be broadcast directly to the receiver.

Streaming to mobile devices

The streaming servers use a trick: some seconds of the TV program store it under a very specific filename. The receiving device retrieves this file. Previously, however, the client must tell the TV receiver which sender to receive and load into the buffer. This combination of a switch and a store command with the retrieval of a particular file is not clearly defined in the DLNA standard, so live TV streaming only works when the server and the client are matched to one another

HD Stream is a challenge

On mobile devices currently Kathrein, Panasonic and Samsung are streaming the live program with special apps. With Samsung TVs, however, you can only transfer the program that the TV is currently showing on your own screen.

HD Plus recordings stream

The HD recorders of the newest generation, on the other hand, have a second tuner, so they can - similar to the devices of Kathrein and Panasonic - show in the living room a different program than by streaming on the smartphone. The Samsung app is, however, only available for certain Android devices such as the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Tab models, but not for the iPhone.

Conclusion

When transferring via WLAN, for example, the transfer of HD content often fades. Partially, mobile devices are also incapable of image resolution.

When HD streaming of Kathrein devices, for example, the reception via iPhone or iPad is only crumpled - it is recommended to stream only SD stations and recordings. With Panasonic recorders and Samsung TVs, however, the HDTV retrieval after the test runs flawlessly flawlessly: they convert HD content before streaming to mobile devices to a lower resolution.

Another obstacle is the transmission of encrypted content. For example, HD-Plus programs in the Kathrein receiver UFS-925 can be recorded on the hard disk, but they can not be streamed via the network with the means of transport. The decryption works only on the device itself.

Exception: If Server and Client are HD-Plus devices, then this can also work - for example with HUMAX. However, an activated HD-Plus card must be inserted in the client device. That costs then 100 Euro reception fee per year for both devices, but allows to see HD-Plus broadcasts in different rooms. Live TV does not stream the iCord HD + however.

More and more devices also allow recording to network hard disks. A NAS (Network Attached Storage) usually has a media server on board, which can also access DLNA clients and mobile devices. Who saves his television recordings here, she always has the entire home network ready - even if the HDTV receiver is off or does not support streaming. In addition to current models from Topfield, Kathrein HDTV receivers are also capable of storing on a NAS.

The whole thing does not quite work out in the dream yet, but it is possible to report from own experience: The television over the network has something - above all on mobile devices and their apps, which simultaneously control the respective HDTV receiver. This means that not only domestic conflicts between KiKA and the sports show can be solved, but also a quite normal television can be particularly comfortable - in the feathers.
