Nikon D600 in the test - SLR camera from Nikon

The 24 megapixels of the best Nikon camera with (approximately) 35 mm sensor provide higher resolution for the camera than for the Canon EOS-1D X, but still barely a picture is found in the video. A strong piece! The D600 has its own film mode and can only use the middle area of the sensor in the APS-C format. Good when connecting real cinema optics that do not illuminate the large sensor. As with the competitors, an automatic sensitivity (ISO) ensures the right brightness during shooting. Unfortunately, in manual mode, only the exposure time can be changed, the aperture must be adjusted before shooting.

For easier exposure lock there is like Sony and Canon a lock button (AE lock) but here you can see their effect only when shooting, not already in advance. Since the autofocus is slow and noisy in the film mode, it is useful to set the sharpness by hand. However, every touch of the lens is also clearly visible on the soundtrack. A remedy is provided by an external microphone whose volume can be adjusted.

Function buttons to the left of the large and bright screen allow you to adjust the ISO setting or give the image a different color. This is a little habituation, but accelerates the work. The camera offers some creative programs that can be used not only for photos but also for video recordings: practically for users who are not yet familiar with the settings of SLRs.

Buying advice: The best 3D camcorders

Faces automatically recognize the D600 but does not always focus on it. If you want to view your pictures on the TV, the best results will be achieved with the 25 fps setting, the other variants can lead to jerky motion playback.

The video recordings of the D600 were quite detailed, but in less light the white balance showed a somewhat unnatural reddish, in daylight reds were too intense. Light moiré effects (edge flicker on horizontal lines) could be detected, otherwise the scenes were quite artifact-free.

The most favorable full-format camera from Nikon is also interesting for filmmakers. But because of the insufficient autofocus and the noises in the sound, it must also be equipped with extra accessories if the results are to be fun.
