Lenovo introduces new ThinkServer

Lenovo is expanding its server portfolio and is launching the next generation of its enterprise class. Led by the Tower ThinkServer TD350 and the two ThinkServer RD550 and RD 650 rack servers from the RD series, Lenovo wants to expand its offer with compact models that offer higher performance than their predecessors and are intended for small and medium-sized businesses >

ThinkServer RD550 and RD650

The housings of the two new ThinkServer RD550 and RD650 are built into standardized 1U and 2U form factors and are characterized by high memory density and extended I / O connectivity. The RD550 is targeted at industry applications and computer-intensive workloads, accommodating up to 12 hard drives and a maximum of 26.4 TB of internal memory.

By comparison, up to 26 hard disks and a maximum of 74.4 TB of internal memory can be accommodated in the 2U form factor server RD650. If you believe Lenovo, the RD650 is designed for larger applications such as databases, data analysis clusters and video streaming. The ThinkServer RD550 and the ThinkServer RD650 are available in hybrid chassis configurations that provide flexibility and scalability.

Prices between 1365 euro and 1741 euro

If you want to map multi-layer storage environments, you only have to integrate combinations of 2.5- and 3.5-inch disks into the two ThinkServer. Another option is to provide two enterprise-class M.2 SSDs for secure booting as well as SD cards for hypervisor boot.

The RD550 and RD 650 rack systems are equipped with latest Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 processors with a maximum of 18 cores. With a corresponding configuration, both can represent up to 768 GB DDR4 memory and thereby exceed the predecessor generations of the DDR3 memory in terms of bandwidth and performance by up to 50 percent. Apart from that, ECC memory, hot-swap-capable HDD and SSD capability as well as redundant power supply and cooling are among their basic features.

The Tower ThinkServer TD350 brings up to two Intel Xeon E4-2600 v3 processors to double the storage capacity and even triple memory capacity of the predecessor generation. In its 4U chassis, the TD350 accommodates up to 512GB of DDR4 memory and 90TB of internal memory and can be equipped with 2.5 or 3.5-inch drive configurations.

As with the ThinkServer RD550 and RD650, you can also choose the TD350 AnyRAID adapter to provide additional data protection and performance-enhancing features. Moreover, there are two optional M.2 SSDS for secure booting. The TD350 works almost silently and has a locked front panel that is designed to provide additional protection for the storage media.

The ThinkServer RD550 and ThinkServer RD650 are available for start-up prices of 1.671 Euros and 1,741 Euros respectively, while the ThinkServer TD350 is priced at 1,365 euros.
