Netflix offline use: Soon synonymous with download function

In order to look at Netflix movies and series, users need an existing Internet connection. According to Lightreading, a network for the communications industry, Netflix will introduce a new function by the end of this year. Thanks to the so-called “download-to-go”, customers will be able to download movies and serials via Netflix, thus enabling them to play back content without an Internet connection, ie offline.

Lightreading is not the only source that confirms this rumor. Analyst Dan Rayburn also reported that the streaming service is working on a way to download movies and serials.

Still in September last year Netflix said that a download function does not belong to its business model. This was justified by the fact that this is not compatible with the simplicity of Netflix.

After Amazon introduced a download function for Prime Instant Video, this position may change. To keep up with the competition, Netflix is forced to offer a download function as well. In May, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings also announced that an offline function would be "open". Thus, offline streaming is no longer excluded.
