Meego is dead, long live Tizen

A new partner was not found, but under the supervision of the Linux Foundation as well as the LiMo group, a new project called Tizen was founded that Meego will inherit. Like Meego, Tizen is open source, however, unlike Meego, we do not use QT or GTK2 on conventional toolkits and bring a surface developed with HTML5. This allows the use of lightweight Web development environments.

In contrast to Meego, which was fixed on the x86 and the ARM platform, platform-independent applications are to be created, which is not only to be used in smartphones, tablets and smart TVs, but also with conventional Atom CPUs in netbooks In embedded devices in the car multimedia area. A first version of the system together with SDK will be targeted for Q1 in 2012, first devices equipped with it starting from mid-year.
