On Kai Ziehl s black-and-white shots are encountered by people and architecture - in railway stations, airports or public buildings. The collection of Kai Ziehl counts 30,000 slides with aerial motifs. He himself can only laugh at his then-so-called photo shoot. "I was kind of totally crazy and toured around the world to check out the tinny birds," he comments amused, "but it's still fun!

Today, on the other hand, his search for motifs is far more difficult. "It all started in 2008 when I tried to create something new, in black and white with people, but they should not be main motif, but only an accessory," he says.

After his first series at the Port of Hamburg, he drove around looking for motifs in old stations. Their simple architectural structure and sterility came to meet him. "So I developed my preference for lines and structures," he says.

At the moment, he is photographing large-scale, sterile, possibly even ailing architecture with a small individual, if possible individual, or their silhouette. Moreover, his motifs are not intended to include trees and, if at all, show only a small piece of heaven. "My photographs would otherwise be too restless," he insists, adding, "This is the reason why I like to go on a photo shoot on foggy days, because the background disappears wonderfully Wonderful!
