“Abendhimmel fascinates the whole of the United States”, drew bild.de on 9 August, one of the many beautiful summer adventures of this year, and described romantically transfigured the splendid red coloring of twilight in these days.

Light moods accompany us people for a lifetime and the experts agree: Whoever is in the right situation, the right light environment, feels comfortable and stays healthier. This is especially true in the home and home. The light conditions even affect human hormone production, control our internal clock and make us feel tired or fit.
Conclusion
Not surprisingly, the lighting control package Philips Hue is currently on everyone's lips. The starter kit contains a small white control box, the so-called "bridge", which is connected to the home network, as well as three incandescent lamps with E27 socket. Anyone who wants to buy Hue should check whether E27-compatible lamps are available in the rooms he wants to equip. However, Philips has already announced the availability of Philips bulbs with additional sizes.
The installation is simple and easy to understand: connect the "bridge" to the local router, plug the bulbs into the lights and charge the free iOS or Android app to the smartphone or the tablet PC. Hue is already ready for use.
But what can Hue do? With the official free app from Philips, pre-programmed scenarios can be conjured into the room. A time switch function makes programming possible at any time of the day.
An excellent idea is that you can use your own photo shoots as a basis for a light situation. The private photo is loaded from the photo archive of smartphone or tablet directly into the app. There you can define three color areas for the respective Hue incandescent lamps in the picture - the personal set-up is ready to be named after the holiday destination, where your sunset motif (with yellow and red coloration of the lamps) or the photo of a Bergseenlandschaft (blue and green coloring).
Thanks to the Geofencing function, which is controlled by the GPS of the smartphone, Hue lamps can now turn on automatically or change their behavior as soon as you approach their home.
A further plus: the system is open to all app developers. That's why there are already several useful third-party apps with Hue functionalities, such as the "Hue Disco", which we have tested.
Once the app is connected to the bridge, the iPad microphone receives music from the room and converts it into flashing disc light. Sensitivity, brightness, color and response speed can be individually controlled via the app. A nice fun for private parties.
A further highlight for home networking enthusiasts: The IFTTT (If This Than That) app allows you to program so-called "recipes" on your smartphone or tablet PC. Example recipe: If the IFTTT integrated weather app recognizes the dusk in its place of residence, the Hue lamps turn into evening red colors. The only catch: IFTTT is a US-American app, which therefore only connects selected US-usual apps. The combination possibilities for the worldwide usable Hue app are therefore unfortunately limited.
But this was by no means all: Philips also has extended application possibilities: The app "Ambilight + Hue" for Android and iOS is a hit for all owners of a Philips TV of the generation 2010 and younger. It transmits the coloring mood from the TV to all lamps connected to Hue and thus includes, for example, the complete living space in the film atmosphere. Flat-TV and Hue need only be on the same wireless network.
And how can Hue be expanded in the house or apartment? Single E27 bulbs are available in the Apple store, the currently exclusive supplier of Hue, for 60 euros. The two-meter-long Philips light strips LightStrips (€ 90 each), as well as the Bloom lamps from the LivingColors series (€ 80 each)
With Hue, make your home a lighthouse, Hue is just fun. The Philips lamps are unfortunately expensive, but the Dutch promise a long life. Setup and connection are child's play. At the "bridge" at most the unnecessary, blue indicator LEDs reduce the very good overall impression. If you love lighting moods in the home, the Philips system offers an individual, always extensively expandable offer, which also leaves room for personal creativity. Spot on! Hue is Connected Home par excellence.
