Colorfoto.de Sony

The two new additions in the Cybershot range, Sony promises, are equipped for shooting at night and in the twilight: the 4x zoom camera with 3 inch touch screen DSC-TX1 and the 5x Zoultic with 24mm wide angle ( KB equivalent) DSC-WX1 are based on the CMOS sensor Exmor R with 1 / 2.4-inch and 10 megapixels. The Exmor sensor is installed with its rear side facing forward as the line and control elements, which partly shield the sensor, are located on the front side. You will find more detailed information in issue 10/2008.

With the same size, this backlight technology leads to a larger light-sensitive surface but also to higher production costs. The bottom line is a weaker image noise and better detail in the dark than conventional CMOS chips of the same size.

Conclusion: Two compact cameras with comparatively good, if not perfect picture quality at higher sensitivities. The WX1 costs 30 euros less, overshadows the TX1 with weaker imaging errors of the lens and is recommended for all, who can do without the touch screen of the TX1
