When printing, the A3 + inkjet Canon Pixma Pro-1 is rather unconventional, because it is blended with black: In full saturated yellow there are dark speckles, which make the field appear darker, but also slightly less saturated. This also applies in general to the photo impression: the colors are a bit dark and not very luminous. There are absolutely no gradients and precision, they are perfect. The gray scale is constantly shifted towards the blue, which is certainly desired and gives under many lighting conditions a more neutral impression with SW images. By the way, the prints take a few hours to reach their final appearance. However, the Pro-1 does not meet the requirements of a professional device, especially in handling. This starts with the endless maintenance cycles that make the printer annoying. And most inkjets are significantly faster than 3 min and 15 s. The ink level indicator starts to drop very quickly, and after the first warning, you can continue printing for a long time. We have determined the ink costs with just over one euro per A4 print. That’s okay, but it’s not cheap either.
Conclusion The Canon Pixma Pro-1 offers good picture quality with some unusual tuning, but handling flaws, which one would not expect with a printer of this class.
