Red and gray plastic, a few antennas and LEDs – at least externally, AVMs Fritz! Box models hardly differ from each other. The Fritz! Box is waiting with different models.
Fritz! Box 2170: ADSL. Nothing else.
The 2170 is the simplest model of the Fritz! Box series. It accommodates an ADSL / ADSL2 + -compatible modem and is thus compatible with all common DSL connections in the United States. The 2170 has four network ports that connect computers, a WLAN access point, and other devices.
Fritz! Box 3270: ADSL and WLAN
The connections still work according to the older Fast Ethernet standard. If you regularly want to copy movies and other large files between your local computers, you better look for one of the models with gigabit LAN (road price about 75 euros).
Fritz! Box 3370: ADSL, VDSL and WLAN
The 3270 corresponds largely to the 2170th However, it packs the at the 2170 painfully missing WLAN module with drauf and thereby makes itself thereby as WLAN access point useful. It also provides data stored on a hard drive connected to the USB port to users on the local network and, if desired, via the Internet. This is, for example, a good thing when you want to play music over streaming clients without a PC running the songs.
Fritz! Box 6840 LTE: For the flat country
A real Fileiserver the Mediaserver called AVM function but no competition (road price about 100 euros).
The 3370 is faster on all corners and ends than its very similar 3270th. First, it dominates besides ADSL / ADSL2 + also VDSL, in the downstream up to 50 MBit / s and in the upstream still 10 MBit / s fast

Secondly, it provides four Gigabit Ethernet ports, where the 3270 offers only Fast Ethernet. And thirdly, the WLAN is at least theoretically somewhat brighter, namely 450 instead of 300 MBit / s fast.
And then there would be the second USB port. For example, you can connect a hard drive and a UMTS stick at the same time. The latter is then used as backup for the Internet connection, if DSL fails. Or as the main Internet connection, if there is no DSL in your area. Caution: Not every UMTS stick is compatible with the Fritz! Box (road price about 150 euros).
Where you would place a Fritz! Box, there is no (brisk) ADSL let alone VDSL, but already the fast mobile radio LTE? Then the 6840 is the right device for you. The only Fritz! Box device is already compatible with the UMTS successor LTE. You can also connect the 6840 to an analogue telephone line.
Then the device makes itself as an internettelefonufähige telephone system useful, with everything, which belongs to it: internal telephone calls, internal mediation, fax reception, answering machine - and all that without a PC must run. Obendrein is a DECT base station integrated into the 6840, with which you can connect radio telephones. Missing one on the 6840 is most likely an ISDN connection. There is also no ADSL / VDSL interface for the upgrade, if DSL is still offered in your area (street charge about 270 euros).
More handsome than the 6840 is the LTE-capable 6810. However, the gain in elegance also means a renouncement of performance. The 6810 can only be connected to the outside world via a single Fast Ethernet port. Telephones can only be wirelessly connected to the 6810. A USB port is just as vain as 5 GHz WLAN. The cost of the 6810 with a street price of 200 euros but also less than the 6840.
The 7270 is such a bit of the VW Beetle under the Fritz! Boxes - the model has already been an eternity, but it still fulfills its purpose quite excellently.
Fritz! Box 7270 and 7330: ADSL, WLAN and telephone system
The 7270 comes with ADSL and ADSL2 + connections clear. It offers integrated WLAN and is also useful as a telephone system with an ISDN and two analogue telephone connections, which mediates or receives calls via the Internet and the fixed network. The four Fast Ethernet ports may no longer be the latest state of the art, but still quite adequate for home use (road price about 150 euros).

Fritz! Box 7390: Everything except for LTE
The actual successor model of the 7270, the 7330 does indeed some, but not much better than its predecessor. So it offers two USB ports, where the 7270 has only one and also has Gigabit LAN - but only a single port. The second LAN port also operates "only" with fast Ethernet speed.
One has to renounce the 7330 on the ISDN connection, on one of the two analogue connections and on WLAN in the 5 GHz frequency range. The latter is particularly interesting where many WLANs are available, but it reduces the risk of collisions and can also increase the WLAN speed (road price about 120 euros). The 7360 is essentially the same as the 7330. It has the smaller sister above all the compatibility with VDSL connections ahead. In addition, with two Gigabit and Fast Ethernet ports, you have twice as many network connections as the 7330.
If it is currently a top model at AVM, it is the 7390. It is compatible with ADSL / ADSL2 + and VDSL, brings fast WLAN with and offers four Gigabit LAN connections. It also names two USB ports, an ISDN and an analog telephone line.
For the cable connection: Fritz! Box 6360 and 6340
Look for some function, which we described with the other Fritz! Boxes - the 7390 has it also. The only exception: LTE. The 7390 does not yet know the fast mobile radio standard. Something is always (road price about 200 euros).
Even if you are using the Internet connection via the TV cable, you can use the Fritz! Box. All models achieve speeds of up to 220Mbps - fast enough for most cable connections. The 6340 is equipped with WLAN (2.4 / 5 GHz) and 4 Gigabit Ethernet connections. In addition, there are two analog telephone lines.
The 6320 also functions as a DECT base for mobile phones, but offers only one LAN and one analogue telephone connection. In addition, your WLAN module works exclusively in the 2.4GHz range. The top model, the 6360, offers four LAN ports (Gigabit), one USB port, two analog ports and one S0 port. The Fritz! Boxes for the cable connection are sold exclusively by cable suppliers.
