Colorfoto.de Lenses

With zooms, the lens designers have to compromise in principle: Because what helps in the telephoto can be harmful in the wide angle. This problem does not exist with fixed focal lengths, but they have to be optimally calculated for exactly one focal range. Especially in the corners, they often deliver significantly better contrast values. Our test compares 19 fixed focal lengths up to 150 mm. Eleven of these start at an initial opening of 2.8, eight at 1.4 to 2.0: Can the super-light 1.4’s compete in contrast with the 2.8? Or is the aperture 1.4 only an option for low light, which the photographer should avoid as far as possible? As always, we test the lenses directly at the appropriate cameras from different manufacturers. At the same time, the results also apply to related models – which are, in addition to other test results in the list at the end of this issue.

Conclusion: After all, four of the super-light 1.4 and 2.0 intersect very well and are already open without compromises at the corner contrast usable. In the other 1.4, the open aperture is rather an option for poor light conditions. You will only receive a limited recommendation. In most cases, a 2.8er should be a better choice.
