SanDisk: SSD presented with 4 TByte, 2017 follow 8 TB

The new Optimus Max SAS SSD with 4 TB of Sandisk offers the largest storage capacity in 2.5-inch solid-state drives. According to Sandisk, the drive, which is equipped with a 6-Gbps SAS interface, is primarily intended for read-only use. The SSD is suitable for companies from the fields of video streaming and also for web servers and data collections.

The drive can sequentially read and write data at 400 MB per second. With its high capacity, the SSD surpasses previously available 2.5-inch SAS hard disks and allows for the first time a replacement of hard disks by SSDs in data centers. The simultaneous reading of many files is also possible by SSD technology. With the average operating time of 2.5 million hours, the drive can be completely overwritten up to three times a day.

The manufacturer, Sandisk, uses an eMLC NAND flash memory in the 19 nanometer format, offering customers up to five years' warranty. However, the warranty is only valid if the specified performance limits of the drive have not been exceeded within this time. For server and storage media manufacturers, the new SSD drives from Sandisk will be available in the third quarter of 2017. Sandisk promises for the year 2017 models with capacities of 6 and later even 8 TByte. There is no information about prices.
