PS4: In many children and (young) adults, the Sony Playstation 4 is at the top of the Christmas Wish List. To make sure that your loved ones have a lot of fun and that you do not go wrong, we have put together some up-to-date tips to keep you informed about current offers and promotions. Buy PS4: New vs. Old revisions
Many potential buyers of a PS4 do not know that Sony has released two new revisions since the release of Playstation 4 (November 2013). The CUH-10xxA series was launched worldwide. The "xx" stands for digit sequences from 00 to 16, which are assigned to the respective sales regions of the world. Europe has the 16, here the corresponding model CUH-1016A should be sold. Other models are import products which may be a problem with local games (also vice versa).
Buy PS4: 500 GB or 1 TB hard drive
In July 2017 Sony changed marginal hardware components in favor of a more favorable production (CUH-11xxA). With the new series, the PS4 was also available in other colors for the first time. In addition to the limited design in gray this was primarily the color white. A year later, Sony released a variant with 1 TB hard drive, which runs under the designation CUH 11xxB. The A is always for the variant with 500 GB, the B for consoles with 1 TB hard disk. So you can usually be sure to get the right variant for an offer - or especially for a private advertisement.

In July 2017 the model CUH-12xxA and later in September 2017 with the model CUH-12xxB appeared with the current revision. This is recognizable by a matte hard drive top left on the PS4. The predecessors had a piano lacquer cover at this point. The model is characterized by the fact that it consumes less power and is generally quieter in operation. The power consumption is 250 watts at the maximum 230, and the fan management has been improved.
Our tip: If your energy consumption is as important as the volume in the living room, then you should pay attention to the offers to get the latest revision. Many online shops want to get rid of their remaining stock of the old models and offer supposed top prices, where the savings because of the higher power consumption of the first generations in the long run or prices, where you have to buy the discount with their nerves. Please refer to the designations CUH-1216A or CUH-1216B. These can be seen on the bottom of the PS4. Also, make sure that you do not have a hard drive on your hard drive - for example, a 1 TB hard drive has been swapped for a smaller one. The hard drive exchange in a PS4 is uncomplicated and also to be accomplished by the laity.
The PS4 is now available with hard disk capacities of 500 GB and 1 TB. Current games may have a memory requirement of up to 50 GB depending on the title - only for the installation. In addition, there is an additional need when memory levels accumulate or social features such as the sharing of videos are desired. So it's worth investing in the future.

For the variant with 1 TB you pay an average of around 50 Euro more. As a rule, this extra space pays off when the PS4 is used for a long time and is fed with many games. But this place will not be sufficient anyway - in view of the future.
In the back of the head, keep the hard drive of a PS4 easily replaced. For another 50 Euro you could upgrade the PS4 directly or in the near future already to 2 TB (500 GB model with matching 2 TB HDD, instead of the PS4 with 1 TB). So it could pay off, first with 500 GB to take advantage, in order to later cheaper in more space to invest. It is important when selecting the 2.5-inch hard disk that the height does not exceed 9.5 millimeters. The warranty does not expire.

Performance junkies could also incorporate an SSD - or currently financially attractive - an SSHD, if the price is not critical. Sooner or later, the cost of an SSD will be low enough to make an SSD worthwhile in a PS4. There are advantages in the loading times and in the boat duration. Depending on the title, the texture streaming used in complex games also benefits from more data throughput, resulting in a higher performance. At the moment, we would rather suggest a SSHD (1TB) from a price-performance perspective, the gains versus the normal PS4 magnetic disk are significantly, and not much slower compared to an SSD.
Please note, however, that the "SSD boost" on a current PC is significantly higher than on a PS4. This is mainly due to the limiting SATA2 port of the PS4, the data transfer rates limited to a maximum of 300 MB / s. It remains to be seen whether Sony does not possibly a further revision with SATA3 interface on the market brings, only the today's SSD rates on PCs of up to over 500 MB / s. In the Xbox One, the question arises about revisions or hard disks not yet. Microsoft continues to sell the first version. The exchange of the data carrier is not as easy as with the PS4. However, there are external solutions with SSHDs. In the case of the Xbox One, the following point is of interest to potential buyers.
A bundle is a package of console and game or console with a second controller or the camera, where you can often get much more cheaply than when you buy it. Here it is only necessary to clarify the taste question. Get information or think about the game preferences you or your offspring have. If, for example, typical roll games or online shooters are favorites, there is no need for a second controller. Keep in mind that online modes require a subscription for Playstation Plus (alternatively Xbox Live, price: 50 - 60 euros a year). If online components are secondary and you would rather play soccer games or other titles together in front of the TV, a bundle with a second controller is more worthwhile. Also, a bundle with the Playstation camera might be interesting if you prefer dancing.

Please note: As a rule, a package with hardware (second controller, camera, microphones & Co.) is more attractive than a game in the bundle with the PS4 in terms of value loss. Just a few months after the release of a game, the traders demand much less for it. The controller and camera prices, on the other hand, will remain fairly stable as a new product depending on the dealer. If it is not directly a game to the release, it pays off, therefore, to invest more in the hardware and older games.
