The Samsung security concept: The graphic shows the most important integrated security features of Samsung multifunctional systems.
Integrated security features of Samsung printers and MFPs
Samsung offers a wide range of solutions that can secure all steps of the input and output process as well as scanning functions: from the user's terminal to the printer, from the hard disk of the printer to the user's output in paper form. The systems are even more relevant in the field of security due to the diverse functions for copying, faxing, scanning and mailing, integrated software applications and interfaces to document management systems (DMS). Corresponding to more attack points must be secured.
The Samsung IT Security Framework covers all security-relevant areas: network and fax security, data security and secure device management, document and user security (see graphic). These components are part of the data security kit, which is included with Samsung systems with its own hard drive. All security tools integrated into Samsung printers and multifunctional devices are certified according to IEEE 2600-2009.21, the standard for the security of networked printers and peripherals, and the EAL32 Common Criteria requirements.
Network Security: To ensure that no external devices are integrated into the enterprise network, standardized access controls can be configured to the network. Companies can ensure that only authorized devices can establish a network connection to their output devices and set up print jobs. The print data streams transmitted from terminals to the output devices are encrypted by the TLS / SSL protocols.
Data security: Not only the data during the transmission but also stored data on the hard disks of the multifunctional systems should be taken into account. The encryption of both the hard disk itself and the local data can be encrypted with the standard AES 256 bit; After completion of the print or scan operation, buffered data will be overwritten after the output, and thus will be erased.
Document Security: The "Confidential Printing" feature prevents unauthorized persons from viewing and taking printed documents. By activating this function, a PIN or password input is required on the output device: The employee who has sent the print job, enters the corresponding password at the printer and thereby starts the printing. This means that the printout does not take place until the respective employee is at the desired device and can take the print job directly from the output tray.
Security: Authentication and authorization procedures (PIN, password, RFID or NFC chip card) can be implemented in compatible printers and MFPs to protect corporate data. First, it is checked whether the user is allowed to work on the respective device. This will prevent unauthorized users from using the device and gain access to the corporate network.
Secure Device Management: The features ensure that log files of print jobs, system backups, and e-mail notifications are protected. They are designed to allow only authorized IT administrators to view sensitive information, such as backups and notifications.
