Colorfoto.de Nikon D200

With around 10 million pixels, the Nikon D200 offers the highest resolution in the class of up to 2000 euros and also scores with first-class equipment. This includes professional accessories such as the wireless LAN adapter WT-3 or the possible connection to a GPS receiver to store location data together with the recordings. Like Nikon’s professional models, the D200 can also be used with Nikkor lenses, which are purely manually focusable, in the time-based mode and allows multiple exposures of up to ten individual images.

The TFT monitor measures 2.5 inches, resolves 230,000 pixels, and allows a large viewing angle of 170 degrees vertically / horizontally. The housing consists in a large part of a magnesium alloy and is sealed at the seams against dust and moisture. With 830 g really no light weight, the D200 is all the more saturated in the hand, to which the handy gumming contributes its part. The borders between amateur and professional camera are blurred in this model - apart from the fact that the standard "pop-up" flash is integrated here. Flash and main exposure can also be corrected from the cameras. In addition, the D200 has a handy flash lock function (which is also known from Canon's EOS models): You can manually light a measuring flash on the camera after using the central AF field to display the most important part (for example, a face) and

With no less than 45 individual functions, the user can adjust the camera according to his preferences, with four storage locations for setting profiles. To make the overview easier, the individual functions were divided into six groups.

The Multi-CAM 1000 autofocus module sets a new standard in this camera class. You can reduce the maximum number of measurement fields from eleven to seven magnified fields, allowing for faster detection of moving motifs. Measuring fields can be individually selected or grouped into groups in order to be able to focus on decentralized motif parts.

A CCD with 1005 pixels is responsible for the exposure measurement in the matrix process. The center-weighted measurement refers to a circle in the viewfinder center, which is weighted with 75 percent, while the environment only contributes 25 percent to the result. The circular diameter can be varied between 6, 8, 10 or 12 mm. The spot metering can work either via the AF field in the middle or via a freely selectable AF field for Nikkor lenses with built-in CPU (all G and D types). The measuring field diameter is 3 mm, which corresponds to about 2 percent of the search field.

At the triggering delay, the D200 reaches a good value of 0.34 s, which is however topped by the direct competitor Canon EOS 30D (0.25 s). The EN-EL3e rechargeable lithium-ion battery allows more than 1000 discharges with one charge even though the camera has a high power consumption. A professional feature is the menu item "Battery diagnosis" with indications of charge status, number of recordings (since last charge) and lifetime. Image quality: The Nikon D200 winner in the class up to 2000 Euro with 57.5 (ISO 100) or 54.5 (ISO 400) for the picture quality. The 10-million-pixel camera convinces with the resolution (1173 LP / BH at ISO 100) as well as the noise performance (15 points for ISO 100/400). It also has no significant weaknesses in color accuracy, white balance and object contrast.

Nikon D200

With 10 megapixels, the Nikon D200 does not create the very high values in the border resolution, but quickly recovers by other qualities. It reacts very quickly to the trigger and creates a peak value in the triggering delay, the color reproduction is very good. The image quality at ISO 100 due to low image noise is just as good. After a good value at ISO 400, however, it falls off at higher sensitivities and lands in the areas in its category in the midfield. In view of the lower price a very attractive camera.
