Canon G7 X Mark II Fujifilm X70: Autofokus

For automatic focus, Canon has a contrast AF with 31 fields, configurable as single-shot or continuous AF, optional with tracking and face detection. Fujifilm uses a hybrid AF system consisting of fast phase detection and precise contrast AF with 49 AF points. The Fujifilm-AF also offers individual and continuous autofocus with facial recognition. Also possible are single-field AF (variable size) and spot.

In addition, there are the new modes "AF Zone" and "AF Wide / Tracking", which use 77 points to focus fast objects. For both cameras, the magnifying function can be switched on during manual focusing, and there is a peaking function (marking of sharp areas). The equipment features of the X70 include a digital cutting-edge indicator and a sharpening scale with sharpening depth indicator. At the touch of a button, the Fujifilm automatically focuses on "AE-L / AF-L" button with manual focusing.

With 0.33 s, both Fujifilm with low light with 0.34 s are just better than Canon with 0.38 s. Even with series they are equal to 8 B / s, but Fujifilm creates only 14 JPEGs or 7 RAWs In series while Canon is recording 32 JPEGs and 22 RAWs.

Neither Fujifilm nor Canon master the high-resolution Ultra-HD mode (4K). Full-HD with a maximum of 60 B / s must be sufficient, each with a good stereo sound. Aperture, exposure and ISO can be set manually with both. Time-lapse and slow-motion functions complete the offer at Canon. The X70 can be used with time-lapse film simulations and the fine adjustment of the white balance. In addition, an external microphone can be connected, not with Canon. Both are missing a headphone input. In Fujifilm, the badly placed small video button is a negative, which can only be reliably operated with an extra pen.

The focus is on both cameras, which are very targeted, accurate and without large pumps. However, the X70 is actually a tripod obligat, because it does not provide image stabilizer like Canon. Its "5-axis" dynamic image stabilizer compensates camera wiggles. A function "AutoLevel" provides a straight horizon, even if it is filmed from an unusual perspective.
