Technically, the DVD Recorder 100 lagged behind the competition, but Videopack 5 as an authoring software convinces. For less money than the program usually costs, you get software and a DVD burner.
Like the DVD burner from Traxdata, the DVD Recorder 100 from Memorex shows weaknesses when reading DVDs, if not so pronounced. 184 milliseconds at the average access time and an average transmission rate of 7634 KB are weak results compared to other DVD + RW drives. Also, the drive takes quite a long time to recognize and play DVD-Rs. If the drive burns DVDs, however, it does not show any weaknesses and is as fast as the competition. Memorex was sparing with the accessories: not a single blank, neither DVD nor CD, is attached to the burner. An IDIC cable is also missing. Notable is the DVD authoring software: Videopack 5 from Roxio is included as a full version. A real bargain when you consider that the program alone costs 499 euros.
