The Internet company Yahoo faces serious accusations. As reported by Reuters, former employees hijack the company to systematically scan the e-mails of their customers on behalf of US authorities.
Controversial cooperation with secret services
All mail traffic was checked with a specially developed program in real-time on catchwords. This would have been ordered by government staff, although it is still open whether the institution involved is the NSA or the FBI, and which key terms were used for the search. At the request of Reuters, Yahoo merely indicated that it was in accordance with applicable US law.
The full search of millions of inboxes at Yahoo is the first case in which a US Internet company had yielded to such a broad request from a secret service, Reuters said. The controversial decision to cooperate with the security authorities resulted in the departure of the then Chief Information Security Officer of Yahoo, Alex Stamos, in June 2017.
The message is the second security-related message about Yahoo within a short time. Only a few days ago it had been confirmed that in a hacker attack millions of Yahoo user data were stolen in 2017.
