Sony Cybershot RX1R: New model without low-pass filter

To achieve maximum resolution and sharpness, Sony is bringing the DSC-RX1R a version of its top compact Cybershot RX1 without low-pass filter, similar to the DSLRs Nikon with the D800E and Pentax with the K-5IIs. The Sony Cybershot RX1 with its built-in 2/35-mm Carl Zeiss lens was the first compact 24×36-mm KB full-size sensor Exmor-HD-CMOS with 24-megapixel resolution. The ColorFoto test attest to the RX1 a high picture quality – the RX1R is now to improve without low-pass filters.

Price and availability

The remaining equipment remains unchanged. This is achieved by means of a high-resolution 3-inch LC display with additional white pixels for a contrast-rich, brighter image with a resolution of 307,250 RGBW pixels. The monitor is also not foldable with the Sony RX1R. As an alternative, as with the RX1, the XGA OLED viewfinder FDA-EV1MK with a resolution of 786,333 RGB pixels is also available for the RX1R, which can be tilted upwards by 90 °.

Specifications

Photographs are optionally with intelligent automatic and digital effect functions or classical aperture or time preselection. The normal sensitivity range of the RX1R remains unchanged with ISO 100-25.600, the "Expanded" mode for ISO 50 and the multi-shot noise reduction for ISO values up to 102,400. Autofocusing can be accessed by direct manual focusing.

Sensor and Bionz image processor allowed the RX1 in the series with up to 5.3 B / s in both the JPG and the RAW format. Full HD video recording at 1,920 x 1,080p and 50b / s. An external stereo microphone can be connected. The images saved as JPG and / or RAW files in the uncompressed 14bit RAW format can be edited in the camera.

With the tried and tested RX1 operation similar to that of SLR cameras with aperture and distance ring on the lens there was no reason for changes. In the "Quick Navi" mode important camera settings can be changed quickly. The Sony RX1R now also uses Sony's proprietary Triluminos technology, which should give an even more realistic impression when it comes to the display of the corresponding TVs.

The Sony Cybershot RX1R, with its aluminum housing 113 x 65 x 70 mm and 482 g, is expected to come on sale in July 2013 at the price of 3,100 euros, as was the RX1.
