Philips Fidelio B5 in the test

Philips Fidelio B5

The Fidelio B5 from Philips not only scores with the sleek and elegant design, but also convinces with two detachable loudspeakers (left and right). The main loudspeaker is shortened, but the wireless loudspeakers can be positioned to the left and right behind the listener, and as a result, they provide the surround sound as required by the manufacturer.

Conclusion

In the Praxistest, the Philips Fidelio B5's loudspeaker system was working perfectly: the rear speakers can be dismantled by hand and placed in the room thanks to their own battery. At first they are a bit too loud as they are still set to the level of the soundbars, but they can also be adjusted to the appropriate volume by remote control.

All in all, the Philips Fidelio B5 creates such an impressive space and, in a few simple steps, a surround system for the cinema night. That also changes the sound stage of the main loudspeaker, is clear, but the positive effect of the rear speakers can be a problem.

The Fidelio B5 liked us especially in the music mode. Here the voices are clear and easy to understand. The Soundbar provides both live and live music, as well as other music, to the listener.

The Fidelio B5 convinces both in the bass range and in the treble. Above all, the live concert of Toto on Blu-ray was fun in the listening test: The subtleties of the rattles came discreetly to the fore, and the drums were well perceptible without overlaying the rest of the music. As a wireless connectivity, Philips offers its customers near-field communications (NFC). The pairing works quickly and is confirmed by a beep. After that, there is hardly anything to complain about.

We can not recommend the Philips preset film mode. It produces an unattractive and above all very artificial echo, and also the tonal changes of the source material are clearly heard. Our tip: Enjoy the Philips Fidelio B5 soundbar in the music mode!
