The Devolo dLAN 1200+ WiFi ac Powerlan Adapter Starter Kit comes as an accessory with two Powerline modules and a network cable. In addition there is a brief guide in several languages, which explains the installation. More is not necessary for the beginning and the commissioning of the package. Connect the Powerline module with the designation dLAN 1200+ to a free port on your router using the supplied network cable. Usually this has enough connections (RJ45) at hand, and at the speed speedfully supports Gigabit. If not, you need a network switch with gigabit support.

Write down the security codes (security ID and WiFi key) on the back of the two adapters for the future. You will need to install more Powerline adapters in the household and if you want to use the new WLAN-ac immediately after setting up the network hardware.

If the "dLAN 1200+" is connected to the router, you can connect it to a socket in range. The module does not require the socket just like the other module "dLAN 1200+ Wifi ac" not for itself. You can simply plug in existing consumers at the connection to the Powerline adapters. This will have less impact on the data transfer than if you plug the Powerline modules and other devices into a multiple socket.
Also connect the second module called "dLAN 1200+ Wifi ac" - of course in the room where you want to have WLAN access. Make a note of the WLAN key, which is marked on the back. On both adapters, a white LED will light up after a few seconds - which means that they have found each other in the electricity network. To enable encrypted data transfer between the Powerline clients, press the pairing button next to the WLAN button in the "dLAN 1200+ Wifi ac", and then press the inconspicuous button at the bottom right of the page in the "dLAN 1200+" . The encryption of data traffic is already active - exemplary!
Then connect devices via WLAN, the network is called "Devolo Wifi". Alternatively, you can connect two PCs or laptops to the ac module using a network cable (not supplied).
There is no software included in the starter kit - in theory, it is not necessary to start the system. But for more security, you should change the passwords for the Powerline and the new WLAN connection. With software you can also give your new name a new name and more. You can use the software dLAN Cockpit, which you can find at the manufacturer as a free download. There you can easily create new passwords for the configuration and the Powerline network as well as all important settings on the WLAN. We liked the possibility to transfer data from the previous WLAN simply by Clone function. This is self-explanatory in the software for advanced users. But a guide for laymen, which is not only available online, would have been desirable.
If you have adapted the passwords and settings, the Starter Kit is already ready for use. On the start screen of dLAN Cockpit, the tool informs you about the existing connection to the other Powerline adapter. If several modules are connected, you will also see them the same. If you click on an adapter individually, the program provides all the necessary options for the respective module.
Conclusion: The furnishing is fast and very easy from the hand. For the commissioning it does not even theoretically even the software dLAN Cockpit - very good! But for a higher security the tool is still needed later. More versatile users can quickly get it right For non-professionals, however, a more comprehensive manual would have been useful.
