Canon EOS 7D in the RAW test

As Canon’s top model of the APS-C class, the EOS 7D costs almost twice as much as the EOS 650D. It offers a high-quality, sealed housing, partly made of magnesium, an additional info display at the top and a faster series function (6.8 instead of 4.8 B / s).

Image quality

In addition, the Canon EOS 7D has a SLR viewfinder with approximately 100 instead of only 95% image coverage and 0.63 instead of 0.5 times magnification. However, the 3-inch monitor is neither touch-sensitive nor adjustable. As with the EOS 650D, the CMOS sensor uses 18 megapixels for image recording.

Compared to JPEG, the Canon EOS 7D can reduce the loss of texture (RAW: 0.1 to 0.3; JPEG: 0.8 to 1.1 kurtosis) by using the RAW format and increase the limit resolution by 5 to 20% RAW: 1467 to 1680 LP / BH, JPEG: 1188 to 1491 LP / BH). Nevertheless, the Canon EOS 7D does not quite approach the cheaper sister model Canon EOS 650D (test). The EOS 650D scores with the higher limit resolution, but also the MTF 50 and MTF25 test results are slightly higher.

Part 7: MP3 Player: Silverlings repackaged

The Microboss MP3 Mouse is not just an MP3 player, which makes one of the stool. The sound quality is average. The processing of the radio part leaves something to be desired.

The Microboss MP3 Mouse can be connected to the PC as a normal USB stick. This means that the MP3 player has the "nose" for direct contact with the USB port of the computer. A USB extension cable is included. The sound quality of the MP3 mouse is nearly identical to the MP-310 players from Aiptek and Arp Datacon. The measurement curve for the frequency response test shows this clearly. Again, there are strong fluctuations in the range of the heights. The built-in equalizer offers several sound programs, but none of these ready-made presets could convince. Too bad that you can not define your own settings. At least a height and depth controller would be desirable. The neckband has a double function: carrying strap and cable for the headphones. In addition, a radio is installed, which also has the very short connection cable for the MP3 player. This cable is welded into the plastic housing of the radio part unprotected, so that a cable tear is only a matter of time.

Android, iOS or Windows Phone 8? - Decision-making by the expert

The best choice for smartphones and tablets: Android, iOS or Windows Phone 8? PC magazine editor Klaus Länger helps with the question of the right mobile operating system. When one with a mobile phone actually only telephoned and perhaps SMS still shipped, the choice of the manufacturer actually did not care. Because if you do not like the new Nokia phone, then you have just switched to a Siemens, Motorola or whatever.

Android: customization is everything

You did not have to choose a platform. Today, the decision for a smartphone, or at least for the smartphone operating system, is more serious. For this, one binds to a complete ecosystem of services and apps, which make a later change not easy. Unless the smartphone or the operating system on the other side of the fence is so attractive as to make a change worthwhile.

Apple iOS: avant-garde for the masses

Android is for smartphones what the early Windows XP for PCs was: it runs practically everywhere, leaves the user relatively many freedoms, offers a wealth of applications, but is prone to digital pests. The Google operating system has managed to catapult first place among the smartphone operating systems in the shortest possible time. It runs on a wide range of devices, from entry-level low-cost smartphones to quad-core high-end devices with full-HD display.

Windows Phone 8: The Latecomer

In general, however, Android compared to iOS or Windows Phone also requires stronger hardware, so it runs smoothly. For updates to newer Android versions one is dependent on the manufacturer of the device, often also modified Android versions are preinstalled. Users sometimes have to wait very long for a new Android version for their old smartphone or the requested update does not come at all.

With the number of apps in Google Play, Android has now passed over 800,000 Apple. There is also the possibility to use alternative stores. However, Android is not only the primary target for real malicious software among the smartphone operating systems, but also many "normal" apps released by Google for the Play Store allow the user very broad access rights to the data of the user. This also applies to the Google services themselves, Google is still an advertising company and therefore needs to know its users as well as possible in order to deliver targeted ads.

Apple's iPhone has managed to sell tens of millions of these smartphones, but still maintain the image of the elite and avant-garde. Apple has the merit to have created the smartphone in its current form. Although there were also previously smartphones and, of course, also touchscreens, but the close linking of device, Appstore and services came only with the Apple device. As a result, the ecosystem is also the most advanced, which is also the abundance of accessories for the iPhone.

However, one has to bind with the decision for iOS also completely to Apple. The selection of devices is limited to the iPhone 4s and the iPhone 5, both are relatively expensive and technically not more up to date. In addition, Apple's App Store is the most heavily regulated. There is a lot of high-quality apps and the risk of malicious software being much worse than Android.

Microsoft had once with Windows Mobile one of the most successful smartphone operating systems in the portfolio, but its development has been negligently neglected and was thus caught by the success of the iPhones cold. The restart with Windows Phone 7 suffered under the very limited operating system based on Windows CE, which made the use of modern dual-core processors or high-resolution displays impossible.

Also the app developers suffered from limitations due to the operating system. All this has changed with Windows Phone 8. Because this version is based on the Windows 8 kernel and supports powerful hardware such as the Nokia Lumia 920. The choice of smartphones from different manufacturers and price classes is not as big as for Android, but more than Apple.

The tile surface is at first glance to be habituated, but modern and liquid to use. The live tiles do not occupy as much space on the screen as the widgets on Android, but provide more information, like the icons at iOS. In addition, the interface of Windows Phone 8 with now three different tile sizes can be better adapted to your own needs, similar to Windows Phone 7. The integration of Facebook and Twitter is very good, with the children corner you have the possibility to create your own interface for To set up the small ones, which can then only access apps and websites that are shared with them.

The Achilles heeled of Windows Phone 8 are still the apps. Although there are now more than 150,000, but some big names and above all many games are still missing. In addition, Windows Phone is empty for small apps, through which you can order concert tickets, for example, or find special offers in stores or online shops. Microsoft's policies for their own store are not as strict as Apple's, but they have no way to integrate other stores or install apps themselves by sideloading.

A weak point is also the lack of integration of the stores of Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8. If apps exist on both platforms, then you have to purchase them separately. All in all, it remains a matter of taste, to which platform you want to bind yourself. Lesetipp: Do you need help with the question of Windows 8 or Windows 7? Safe surfing: These tips are indispensable - 3. Expand URLs

In many places on the net, you may encounter short web addresses that start with bit.ly, goo.gl, or t.co, for example. This is followed by an online service, which automatically redirects your browser to the long web address that is stored for it when a short URL is called. This is handy because, in many places, short URLs make it easier to enter web addresses. However, they can also be misused, for example, to hide dangerous websites behind unsuspecting, short URLs.

3. Expand short URLs

It is therefore better to look at the long URLs behind short URLs before calling them. Simply copy a short URL to the clipboard and paste it into the CheckShortURL input field and click Expand.

Medion P82758 (MD 90200): External hard drive at Aldi from 1 August 2013

There is a USB 3.0 port for data transfer. If your desktop computer or notebook does not support this, you can also use the external hard drive with USB 2.0.

Before you buy, make sure you have at least Windows XP (Service Pack 3) installed on your PC or notebook. Also, Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista (Service Pack 1) are compatible with the external HDD. In order to connect the hard disk, of course, at least one USB interface must also be available. The included accessories include a USB cable for 3.0 and 2.0 ports.

Because the Medion P82758 (MD 90200) is equipped with a classic magnetic disk drive in 2.5 inch format and an 8 MB cache, you will only benefit from the high speed.

Five 46/47-inch LED TVs compared

The vortex around 3D makes the HDTV world seem almost unspectacular. The new LCD TVs, which are illuminated by laterally illuminated LEDs, are anything but dull. Throughput into the last socket, they bring features that make them mutate to the multimedia center. DLNA is the magic word: it describes the standard, which allows you to play videos, pictures or music from a server comfortably in the living room. Each of the candidates presented here masters the media – but in different forms. Internet applications should not be missing, because what do you do, if times is not running something that interests you? You put your own program together, thanks to YouTube. But other providers can also offer it. For example, Sony is flirting with the American Football Association (DFB) and LG with the online video store Maxdome. There should be something for everyone. In addition, with all the design and equipment diversity, the TV presented here are comparatively cheap. So you can be curious.

Tamron AF 2,8 / 70-200 mm Di SP LD IF Macro tested in Sony A77

At 700 Euros, Tamron delivers the bargain among Telezooms. And this can be seen visually, because with short and medium focal range the note can only be very good: the curves run uniformly and high up into the Bildecken. In the tele there is then the contrast burglary, which can be diminished by shading but significantly and thus the recommendation secures. Again the new 70-200 is not yet available.
