Two contracting parties have been struggling for the title “best-selling video editing software” for years. According to the manufacturer Pinnacle Studio was sold around 13 million times, while in the United States Magix is ahead. Like the Pinnacle Studio, there are video deluxe in different versions, with and without hardware in the package. We tested the “big” software versions, which offer many additional filters.

With a recommended price of around 130 euros, both counterparts are targeting particularly demanding home users, and the range of functions also makes them attractive for wedding video or industrial film makers. Since both programs do not support professional TV and video cameras, they are not considered for this application. It is noticeable that both parties have extensive 3D support.
Conclusion
The Pinnacle Studio of Corel is only the name of the successor of the well-known editing program. The first version released by Corel is practically the Avid Studio 2.0. The development focus of this version was the performance, the self-developed codecs for MPEG-4 were completely revised and adapted for 64-bit operating systems. On our test PCs, larger, high-resolution projects could be processed smoothly. One of the strengths of the program is the precise adjustment of colors and brightness.

New are highly advanced 3D functions, which however led to crashes in the test periodically. Thanks to the modern but not always happy, task-oriented interface, the program can be used without long training. However, we missed many functions, which are particularly important for demanding users. This includes, for example, an adjustable scene detection, which depends on the contents of the clips, an image stabilization, in which the region to be stabilized can be determined, etc.
The editing program of the American manufacturer Magix appears in the direct comparison more confusing and confused with some inconsistencies in the operation. Magix is the top track at the bottom. The waveform for sound is less clearly visible than in the Corel program, before the display, the respective clips have to be selected individually and the option Create Waveform Display. This representation can be made in a track with the associated video or on separate tracks.

Video deluxe integrates, among other things, the codecs of MainConcept, which are much slower in comparison. However, the Magix editing program offers a range of functions for editing and editing, which is unparalleled in this price class: adjustable scene recognition by content, precise image stabilization, as well as countless effects, such as sound processing. However, some of the built-in functions would still be viable.
There is little sense in particular, a multicam mode, which supports only two cameras. The now far more than 100 templates for DVD and BD menus could be visually more demanding. The double-window view supported by almost all editing programs is also not possible, with the marked source in the left-hand window and the image at the current cursor position in the timeline on the right

The indication of the remaining rendering time, which is no longer contemporary in nature, proved to be unreliable. If the hard disk space was no longer sufficient, Magix set the work without warning. Annoying: The software generates rendering partly huge temporary files.
Both programs are the same. Video deluxe shines through a huge range of functions in this price class. However, it is too slow when rendering. Pinnacle Studio has grown enormously and scores in the new version especially in the fields of operation / performance as well as in service and support.
